【摘要】:ThisstandarddescribesaBIOSfirmwarelayerthatmaybeusedtobothplaceandexecutesystemdiagnosticsonaprotectedareaofthesystemharddisk.Thepurposeofthesediagnosticsistoaccuratelydetermineforboththeuserandatechnicalsupportengineerthattheharddriveisfunctioningcorrectly.Thesediagnosticsareplacedinaprotectedareaofthediskdrivebecausetheyarelessvulnerabletoattackfromviruses,systemsoftwarecorruption,andtheuser.ThefirmwarelayerdescribedhereinmayalsobeusedtorunDOS-basedrescueutilitiesoncethedrivehasbeenshowntobeworkingbythediagnosticsdescribedabove.
